Install the launcher

Java

Before installing Umai Launcher, your pc needs Java.

To check if your computer has the correct Java version; open terminal and type java --version. If the version is 8 or higher you are able to install Umai Launcher.

For modpacks for Minecraft versions newer than 1.17 you do need a newer Java version.

Minecraft version Min. Java version
1.17 16
1.18 17
1.21 21

Updating / Installing Java

Download the installer for the latest java version from https://oracle.com/ or use this direct link for Windows.
Execute the installer by double-clicking it, and follow the instructions in it.

Installing the Launcher

Download either the universal or windows executable from https://hexasis.eu/launcher/. The main difference between the versions is that the windows executable has a logo icon. Place this executable in a place you can find it.

Universal executable

The only thing to do is double-clicking the executable. If Java is installed correctly the launcher will open and will create a folder in Documents.

Windows executable

Just like the universal executable, double left-click to open it. Windows will most likely flag the executable as unsafe and give you a warning saying Windows protected your PC.

To open it anyway, click on More info, and then Run Anyway.

Add the launcher to Windows start menu

Umai Launcher does not automatically add itself to the start menu. Luckily this is very easy to do.

Right-click the executable you downloaded and click on Create Shortcut.
Copy the shortcut that was created to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
Now you can open the start menu and look for your shortcut to pin it.

To change the name of the program in the start menu you just need to rename the shortcut.
